The Missions Ministry aims to confront lack and scarcity in the world with the abundance of God’s kingdom. Activities range from programs confronting material lack as well as systemic problems that keep people from thriving in the lives that God intends for them.

ONE Wake Community Organizing
We commit not only to meeting immediate needs but addressing the factors that create those needs. With dozens of other churches and organizations in Wake County, we are creating a broad-based civic organization called ONE Wake (Organized Neighbors for Empowerment). ONE Wake will organize for the needs of the families in our congregation and neighborhood. This non-partisan organization would be able to sit at the table with key decision-makers so we can help decide how to structure our communal life.
Neighborhood Summer Program
Greenwood Forest partners with other area churches to provide summer meals to children while school is not in session. The Neighborhood Summer Program does more than just meals, however! Children receive summer enrichment through reading, crafts, and music education—other sites add science, math, and nutrition. Youth and adult participants also experience programs highlighting education and economic opportunities. The program engaged over 100 participants per week last summer!
Family Promise
Throughout the year, Greenwood Forest hosts Family Promise of Wake County, a transitional housing program. Family Promise invites churches to provide meals for families who are transitioning into housing for a week. Each session, Greenwood Forest members band together to practice hospitality.
Backpack Buddies
During the school year, Greenwood Forest and our partners at the Kirk of Kildaire supply packs of food for kids at our local elementary schools. Packs contain everything from staples like rice and beans to shelf-stable milk to breakfast cereal. The ministry serves over 120 families a week throughout the year.
