Verizon Wireless Project Information

On April 30th, representatives from Verizon met with Steve Denning, Properties Committee Chair, Ed Floyd, Mark Soars, and Travis Hicks to address the questions raised at the last business meeting concerning a proposed re-design of Verizon’s original construction drawings. The materials samples presented were satisfactory and additional architectural options were considered. At this meeting the revised design of the housing for the cable at the base of the steeple was much smaller and in keeping with the drawings originally presented to the church when the contract was approved. This past Wednesday the Properties Committee unanimously accepted the new design and we plan to sign the contract soon, pending approval from our attorney, Dillard Powell.

Verizon Cellular Update:

On April 30th, representatives from Verizon met with Steve Denning, Ed Floyd, Mark Soyars, and Travis Hicks to address the questions raised at the last business meeting as to maintenance as well as cable chase and steeple base materials selection. The materials samples presented were satisfactory and additional architectural options were considered. At this meeting the revised design of the housing for the cable at the base of the steeple was much smaller and in keeping with the drawings originally presented to the church when the contract was approved. We posted these revised renderings of the materials and the design changes on our website for further review and to provide an opportunity for input.

Three design alternatives were considered:

1) Chase the cable inside the parlor/narthex area with, disguising it with a false ceiling that matched the materials in place, and

2) The two design approaches presented in the renderings on the website.

At its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, May 15th the Properties Committee unanimously selected the Verizon cable chase option that results in the appearance of a firewall and ridge vent (simulated images below). The committee discussed the other options and strongly felt that this was the best choice as it:

1) Appeared architecturally planned instead of trying to disguise the chase with paint to match the areas it traversed,

2) Required the fewest chase angles along the roof area (and thus the least potential maintenance), and

3) Maintained the integrity of all Verizon equipment below the eaves to be contained inside the brick wall around the equipment pad.

Respectfully submitted,

The Properties Committee

Steve Denning, Chairman
