Picture of David

David Mellnik and his wife Revina "Vanna Fox" have been serving at Greenwood Forest since April 1998. David previously served McLean [VA] Baptist Church as Minister of Music from 1987-1995 where he led a group of 40 singers and ringers on a Baptist World Alliance sponsored music mission trip to Latvia and Russia. He received his Bachelor of Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and the Masters of Church Music from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, where he is the only masters level student to be awarded both the Performer’s Certificate and the Honors Award Certificate in voice.

David left a career in opera to answer his call to ministry. David began his professional singing career 25 years ago, but his beginnings were anything but auspicious. His first singing gig came as a singing dishwasher at the Farm House Restaurant in Blowing Rock in 1976. Since this humble start, he has appeared with orchestras and opera companies throughout the east coast. His operatic roles include Gianni Schicchi, Don Giovanni, Ford in Falstaff, Escamillo in Carmen, Tonio in I Pagliacci, and Giorgio Germont, in La Traviata. He has performed the title role in the oratoro, Elijah, and has sung as the bass soloist in Requiem Masses by Verdi, Schubert, Fauré, Vivaldi, Brahms, and Mozart. David is a four-time Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Auditions, a regional winner of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) auditions, and a three-time winner of the North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs audition.
